The 3D-EM Network offers training fellowships aiming at the establishment of closer relations to universities in Central, Eastern and other parts of Europe.
The European Network of Excellence (NoE) 3D-EM integrates the leading European laboratories in electron microscopy to develop standardised procedures and innovative equipments for comprehensive structural analysis based on advances in electron microscopy. 3D-EM is funded within Research Framework Programme 6 of the European Commission over five years (March 2004 to February 2009).
Fellowships
Fellows will continue work on their individual scientific projects at one Network partner site with state-of-the-art equipment. The fellows will receive advanced training in relevant technology at their NoE host institution.
Eligibility
This programme is mainly directed at experienced researchers and postdocs holding a position at a research institution in Central and Eastern Europe in the field of structural biology. Yet scientists from related fields (i.e. engineering, IT) and from other regions in Europe may also apply.
In general, fellows are expected to form a lasting “contact point” between their home institutions and the 3D-EM NoE upon their return. Therefore, a long-term commitment with their home institution is expected.
For junior researchers other training opportunities are available. Please consult the 3D-EM training website: www.3dem-noe-training.org
Time Period of Training
Fellowships will generally be provided for a period of three months, but the time frame is negotiable. Applicants are urged to select a NoE partner site relevant to their research project as a potential host after consulting the 3D-EM website: www.3dem-noe.org/partners/index.html
Financial Support
Fellowships will be in the range of 5.000 EURO for a three-months period. They are supposed to cover travel and subsistence costs at the host institution, but do NOT include a salary.
How to Apply
(I) Visit the 3D-EM website: www.3dem-noe.org/partners/index.html and identify a 3D-EM host laboratory of interest to you.
(II) Prepare a research proposal suitable for a three-months visit to the host lab.
(III) Contact the relevant 3D-EM group-leader (with the proposal) and obtain a letter of acceptance from this host lab.
(IV) Send application to the 3D-EM Project Office Martinsried containing.
- 1. Your CV (1 page).
2. Research proposal (max. 1 page).
3. Description of facilities and research interests of your home lab (max. 1 page).
4. Letter of recommendation from your Science Faculty.
5. Letter of acceptance of the 3D-EM host lab.
Electronic submission is encouraged, but not compulsory.
